DEAR FRIENDS AND COLLEAGUES

On behalf of the researchers of the Center for Strategic Analysis I have the pleasure to welcome you in 2010 and express my hope that you will find new interesting and useful materials at the SPECTRUM website.

Summarizing the past year, which as a whole was successful for us, I would like to once again welcome two new members of our team – Dr. Alexander Markarov and Ms. Milena Oganesyan.

In 2009 we completed the long-term project “The Enemy Image: the Origins and Mechanisms of Its Overcoming on the Example of the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict.” The results of the research will be published in the first half of 2010.

Another finalized research project, “The Conflict Potential of the South Caucasus in the Geopolitical Dimension” (with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation), provides analyses of the three open conflicts of the area of South Caucasus and their implications for the internal and external actors, as well as reveals the potential of the latent conflict in Samtskhe-Javakheti/ Javakhk and the Islamic factor in Azerbaijan through the prism of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

With support of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, the Center continues its annual publication “Regional Security Issues.” Its fourth volume dedicated to the main developments of 2008 was issued in March 2009.

The Center also published 10 issues of the third volume of the analytical bulletin “In Depth Analysis.” I would like to thank all our subscribers for their continuing support of this project.

The analysts of the Center published 11 articles in foreign scientific periodicals and made reports at 17 conferences, took part in 28 international conferences and seminars.

In 2010 we will continue our annual (“Regional Security Issues”) and monthly (“In Depth Analysis”) projects. In March a new research project “Anatomy of the Armenian Foreign Policy in the First Decade of the 21st Century” will be launched. We are also planning to hold a series of seminars on the regional developments.

Dear Friends,
I hope that your interest toward the activity of our Center will not fade and we will make efforts to keep it high.
I wish you peace and prosperity in the New Year.

Yours sincerely,
Gayane Novikova
